Anecdotes of painting in England : with some account of the principal artists, and incidental notes on other arts
Horace Walpole's history of painting in England, drawn from George Vertue's notebooks and edited by James Dallaway, printed at the Shakspeare Press in London in 1826 for antiquaries and collectors. Copperplate and wood engravings reproduce royal tomb effigies, processional and marriage scenes, quartered armorial shields under coronets, and half-length portraits of artists and seamen against shipping.
