Anecdotes of painters, engravers, sculptors and architects, and curiosities of art
A three-volume compilation of biographical anecdotes about painters, engravers, sculptors and architects, assembled by Shearjashub Spooner and reissued in New York by A. W. Lovering in 1880 for general American readers of art literature. Wood-engraved artist portraits sit in oval strapwork cartouches held by putti and caryatid figures, with palettes, brushes and tassels above; useful for ornamental frames, medallion surrounds and stipple-shaded heads.
