A biographical survey of English animal painters from 1650 onward, compiled by the horse breeder and writer Sir Walter Gilbey and published by Vinton & Co. in London in 1900 for collectors and sporting-art readers. The plates reproduce paintings and engravings of riders, hunters and hounds in open country, giving designers horse anatomy in motion, tonal landscape backdrops and crowded hunting-field groups.
