Annales de chimie et de physique

1789 · Paris, Masson [etc.] · 8 pictures

A French scientific periodical, the Annales de chimie et de physique, begun in 1789 and issued at Paris by Masson for chemists and physicists. The images here are not diagrams but printers' ornaments used to break the text: small woodcut sprays of flowers and buds, a symmetrical acanthus headpiece, a hanging foliate tailpiece, and a ribboned wheat-sheaf device, all in coarse black relief on laid paper, useful as dividers and spot decoration.
