Annual report of the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Annual reports of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, issued from 1878 by the institution then called the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art, printed for trustees, members and donors. The plates are halftone photographs of new acquisitions: modern and old-master paintings reproduced in soft grey tones, Baroque tapestries with garlanded borders and cartouches, and decorative objects such as a Limoges enamel charger with medallions and grotesque ornament, useful as ornament sources and as dark, grainy tonal fields.
