Recueil d'antiquités egyptiennes, etrusques, grecques et romaines
A multi-volume antiquarian catalogue of Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek and Roman objects compiled by the comte de Caylus and published in Paris from 1756 for collectors, scholars and artists of the early archaeological trade. The engraved plates record bronze statuettes, engraved gems, lamps, fibulae and fragments in outline and fine hatching, each numbered and often shown front and back against blank paper, giving designers isolated object silhouettes, mythological gem vignettes and ready-made plate numbering.
