Antiquities explained : being a collection of figured gems, illustrated by similar descriptions taken from the classics
A two-volume antiquarian study of engraved classical gems, compiled by George Ogle with plates issued by Claude Du Bosc and printed by James Bettenham in London in 1737 for collectors and classical scholars. The plates are outline etchings of oval intaglio designs—nude deities, winged cupids, torches, wreaths and drapery—each ringed by a plain border with a small scale diagram, giving clean line motifs for medallions, seals and roundels.
