Supplement to the antiquities of England and Wales
A supplement volume to Francis Grose's county-by-county survey of English and Welsh antiquities, published by S. Hooper in London from 1777 for antiquarians, collectors and topographical subscribers. The 161 copperplate views show monastic ruins, gatehouses, castle walls, tithe barns and parish churches set in open country, with small staffage figures, cart tracks, and broadly hatched cloud skies that supply ready-made architectural silhouettes, masonry texture and landscape backgrounds.
