Les antiquités d'Herculanum : avec leurs explications en françois
A French plate-book of Roman antiquities excavated at Herculaneum, engraved and published by François-Anne David in Paris from 1780 with commentary by Sylvain Maréchal, aimed at collectors, artists and antiquarians. The engravings isolate single bronze and marble figures on turned pedestals against blank paper, drawn in fine outline with light stipple shading, giving clean cut-out silhouettes of gods, dancers and draped women usable as spot figures, borders or ornament.
