Aubin Louis Millin's five-volume antiquarian survey, published in Paris from 1790, recorded tombs, inscriptions, statues, stained glass and church fittings from French abbeys and châteaux seized as national property during the Revolution. Line engravings show recumbent effigies, Gothic canopied tomb niches with crockets and tracery, vaulted interiors in perspective, column profiles and heraldic wall monuments, useful as clean outline ornament and architectural detail.
