Aubin Louis Millin's Antiquités nationales, issued in Paris from 1790, recorded tombs, inscriptions, stained glass, statues and buildings from abbeys and châteaux seized as national property during the Revolution, for antiquaries and the state. Copperplate engravings mix elevations of church façades with plates of effigies, chalices, seals, heraldry and window panels, giving designers clean line silhouettes of medieval French objects and Gothic architectural detail.
