A Latin alchemical treatise and polemic by Andreas Libavius, printed at Frankfurt in 1615 by Nicolaus Hoffmann for the bookseller Peter Kopff, addressed to learned physicians and chemists and answering the attacks of Henning Scheunemann and Nicolas Guibert. The plates here are the book's printed ornament: long woodcut headpiece bands of acanthus scrollwork with rosettes, bearded grotesque masks and small putti, usable as rules, dividers and repeating border strips.
