The application of electricity to railway working
A technical manual by telegraph engineer William Edward Langdon, published in London by Spon in 1897 for railway engineers and signalmen working with electric block instruments, bells and indicators. Line engravings show sectioned instrument cases, coils and plungers, relay contacts, treadles and axle-driven gear, each part keyed with small italic letters and hatched shading useful as diagram vocabulary.
