A survey of antique and modern tapestries by Pietro Gentili, published in Rome by A. Manelli in 1897 for collectors, museums and the textile trade. The color plates reproduce whole Flemish and medieval hangings: courtly figures in trailing robes, distant hill landscapes, named allegorical personifications, and dense millefleurs-and-flower borders that can be lifted as frames or repeating ornament.
