Archaeological essays
Archaeological essays by the Edinburgh physician Sir James Young Simpson, edited by John Stuart and published posthumously in Edinburgh in 1872 for antiquarians and learned societies. Wood-engraved plates and text cuts record drystone cells, corbelled beehive huts, pointed stone doorways and inscribed standing stones, offering designers close-hatched masonry textures, stark architectural silhouettes and early lettering cut into rock.
