Archaeological essays
A posthumous two-volume collection of archaeological papers by the Edinburgh physician Sir James Young Simpson, edited by John Stuart and published in Edinburgh in 1872 for antiquarian societies and scholarly readers. The wood-engraved figures record field evidence: corbelled and pointed stone arches, inscribed standing stones with Roman lettering, cup-marked boulders, and small incised objects, drawn in open outline with hatched shading useful as line-art stonework, carved-mark motifs, and epigraphic samples.
