Archaeological essays
Posthumous collection of antiquarian papers by the Edinburgh physician Sir James Young Simpson, edited by John Stuart and published in Edinburgh in 1872 for archaeological societies and learned readers. Wood-engraved plates record inscribed Roman lead and stone tablets, jugs with stamped handles, and carved relief fragments in fine hatching, useful for lettering samples, vessel silhouettes and textured stone surfaces.
