Architectural composition : an attempt to order and phrase ideas which hitherto have been only felt by the instinctive taste of designers

Robinson, John Beverley, 1853- · 1908 · New York : Van Nostrand · 126 pictures

A 1908 design treatise by John Beverley Robinson, published in New York by Van Nostrand, setting out rules of proportion, massing and facade arrangement for architecture students and practising designers. Halftone photographs of Italian and French Renaissance palaces sit beside the author's quick pen diagrams of blocks, cornices and window bays, giving designers both grey-toned building elevations and stripped line schematics of the same forms.
