Architectur und Ornamentik der antiken Sarkophage
Walter Altmann's 1902 archaeological study of Roman sarcophagi, published in Berlin by Weidmannsche Buchhandlung for classical scholars and students of ancient architecture and ornament. Halftone photographs and line plates record carved chest fronts and lids: crowded mythological and procession friezes, swagged garlands hung with ribbons and vases, winged erotes, lion masks, strigil fluting, dentils and egg-and-dart moldings, useful as repeating border stock and relief texture.
