Giovanni Branca's Manuale d'architettura, printed in Ascoli by Maffio Salvioni in 1629, is a pocket handbook of practical building rules for Italian masons, carpenters and site architects. The woodcuts are small, coarse diagrams of cornices, column bases and entablature profiles annotated with measurement numerals and dashed lines, plus foliate printer's ornaments useful as rough-edged technical marks and scrollwork.
