Argonauts of the western Pacific; an account of native enterprise and adventure in the archipelagoes of Melanesian New Guinea
Bronislaw Malinowski's 1922 ethnographic monograph on Trobriand kula exchange, published in London and New York by Routledge and Dutton for anthropologists and university readers. The plates are the author's own halftone field photographs: outrigger canoes rigged on beaches, ranked groups of men and dancers in fibre skirts, village clearings under palms, all soft-grained and tonally flat for grayscale collage or duotone work.
