Ariadne florentina. Six lectures on wood and metal engraving
John Ruskin's six Oxford lectures on wood and metal engraving, first delivered in 1872 and reissued by Longmans in New York in 1904 for students and collectors of print history. The plates reproduce fifteenth-century Florentine line engravings — seated allegorical figures with lettered tablets, crowned kings, spheres and fountains — alongside Holbein's Dance of Death woodcuts, offering fine open hatching, decorative borders and drapery studies for line work.
