Art and artists in Connecticut

French, Harry W. (Harry Willard), 1854- · 1879 · Boston, Lee and Shepard; New York, C.T. Dillingham · 63 pictures

A regional survey of Connecticut painters, sculptors and engravers written by Harry W. French and published in Boston by Lee and Shepard in 1879 for American art readers and collectors. The plates are wood-engraved bust portraits of bearded men in frock coats and bow ties, drawn from photographs, with faces built from fine cross-hatching and backgrounds left as bare radiating lines, useful for period likenesses, hatching textures and vignette head silhouettes.
