Art culture: a hand-book of art technicalities and criticisms
A handbook of art terms and criticism drawn from John Ruskin's writings, compiled by William Henry Platt and published by Wiley in New York in 1873 for art students and amateur draughtsmen. The plates are teaching diagrams: pen-drawn sprays of leaves and branches, shaded mountain slopes, curves and construction lines isolated on blank ground, and shorthand cloud and sunset sketches reduced to a few strokes, useful as spare linear motifs, rules, and drawing exercises.
