Art decoration applied to furniture
A survey of historical furniture styles written by American author Harriet Prescott Spofford and published by Harper & Brothers in New York in 1878, aimed at householders and decorators furnishing rooms in period taste. Wood engravings and pen drawings show cabinets, chairs, sideboards and beds in elevation and three-quarter view, with carved panels, turned columns and scrollwork rendered in fine hatching usable as ornament motifs or line-art spot illustrations.
