Art decoration applied to furniture
An 1877 survey of historic furniture styles and household decoration by American writer Harriet Prescott Spofford, published in New York by Harper & Brothers for middle-class readers furnishing their own homes. Wood-engraved plates show cabinets, carved armchairs, prie-dieux and sideboards drawn in fine cross-hatched line, some isolated on white, others set in shaded interiors with framed pictures and candelabra.
