An Italian edition of Charles-Alphonse Dufresnoy's verse treatise on painting, issued in Rome in 1775 by Giuseppe Monti Roisecco with notes by Francesco Algarotti and plates engraved by Ignazio Benedetti, for painters and students of art theory. The engravings copy famous antique marbles \u2014 the Belvedere Torso, the Farnese Hercules, muscular male nudes on plinths \u2014 in fine hatching, alongside small woodcut headpieces of foliage and grotesque figures useful as ornament.
