The art-idea: sculpture, painting, and architecture in America
A critical survey of American sculpture, painting, and architecture by collector and critic James Jackson Jarves, published in New York by Hurd and Houghton in 1866 for a general reading public. Its printed ornament is sparse: a black scrolling acanthus headpiece band, a blue-line cross set in a cusped hexagonal panel, and a plain red cloth cover with wear.
