Collected art criticism by Dutton Cook, published in London by Sampson Low, Son, and Marston in 1869 for British readers following exhibitions and painting. The pictures here are square woodcut initial letters, white capitals reserved against dense black grounds of scrolling acanthus, tulip-like buds and dotted fill, usable as drop caps, monogram frames or small ornament tiles at any scale.
