Art in needlework; a book about embroidery
A practical manual on embroidery technique and design by the English design reformer Lewis F. Day with needleworker Mary Buckle, published in London by B.T. Batsford in 1900 for students, teachers and working embroiderers. The plates are halftone photographs of worked samples and historical fragments, close enough to read individual stitches: sunflower and thistle motifs in outline stitch, coiled scrollwork in laid silk, raised floral sprays and couched stems.
