Artists of Abraham Lincoln portraits
A documentary file from the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection recording painted portraits of Abraham Lincoln by nineteenth-century artists, including the German-trained painter William F. K. Travers, assembled for researchers and collectors of Lincoln iconography. The plates are halftone reproductions of oil paintings: bust and three-quarter views against dark grounds, one full-length standing figure beside a desk with papers, inkstand and a portrait bust, useful for heavy chiaroscuro, silhouetted head shapes and coarse halftone grain.
