Art and life
An essay on aesthetics by Vernon Lee, issued in 1896 by Elbert Hubbard's Roycroft Printing Shop in East Aurora, New York, for buyers of hand-printed Arts and Crafts editions. The decoration runs to red outline roundels holding a crown or a displayed eagle, heavy black initials tangled in vine and bud scrollwork, and small leaf headpieces, giving designers ready medallion marks, drop caps, and page ornaments in two-colour flat line.
