Art and nature under an Italian sky
Margaret Juliana Maria Dunbar's account of Italian art and travel, published in Edinburgh by Thomas Constable in 1852 for British readers with an interest in the galleries and landscape of Italy. The pictures here are wood-engraved chapter initials in which hatched roman capitals sit against outlined acanthus scrollwork and small grotesque beast heads, useful as drop caps, ornament spots, or line-art motifs for borders.
