The art of landscape painting in oil colours
An instruction manual on oil landscape painting issued by the colourmen Winsor and Newton in London in 1880, written for amateur and student painters who bought the firm's materials. The wood engravings are product views of the firm's equipment — fitted mahogany colour boxes with trays of tubes and pans, folding brush wallets, sketching blocks and easels, with crest labels and hatched shadows that supply ready-made artist-supply emblems, box diagrams and tool silhouettes.
