The art of the Pitti Palace : with a short history of the building of the palace, and its owners, and an appreciation of its treasures

Addison, Julia de Wolf Gibbs, 1866- · 1903 · Boston : L.C. Page · 43 pictures

A popular art-history handbook to the Pitti Palace gallery in Florence, written by Julia de Wolf Addison and published in Boston by L.C. Page in 1903 for travellers and general readers. Its plates are halftone reproductions of Italian and Flemish paintings, printed very dark so that figures, heads and hands emerge from near-black grounds, useful for chiaroscuro fragments, cropped faces and heavy tonal textures.
