The art of the Prado : a survey of the contents of the gallery, together with detailed criticisms of its masterpieces and biographical sketches of the famous painters who produced them
A survey of the Prado's collection by the English painter and critic Charles Ricketts, published in Boston by L.C. Page in 1907 for gallery-goers and students of Spanish and Italian painting. The plates are dark halftone reproductions of oil paintings — mythological hunts, crowded altarpieces, martyrdoms — with heavy shadow, blurred edges and sepia ink useful as texture or atmospheric backdrop.
