The arts in early England
Brown, Gerard Baldwin, 1849-1932, Webster, Adam Blyth, 1882- · 1915 · New York, E.P. Dutton · 14 pictures
Volume from Gerard Baldwin Brown's scholarly survey of Anglo-Saxon and early medieval English art and architecture, issued by E.P. Dutton in 1915 for archaeologists, antiquarians and museum students. The plates are halftone photographs of excavated metalwork — saucer, disc, cruciform and square-headed brooches, belt buckles and mounts — isolated on black grounds with small numeral tags, giving clean silhouettes and chip-carved interlace patterns.
