The arts in early England
A scholarly survey of Anglo-Saxon and early medieval English art and architecture by Gerard Baldwin Brown, published by John Murray in London from 1903 for antiquaries, architects and students of church archaeology. The plates mix reproduced Elizabethan bird's-eye estate and site surveys, excavation plans drawn as solid black walls against hachured banks, and pen views of churches and towers — useful for hand-drawn map textures, hatching conventions and archaeological plan diagrams.
