The arts in early England
A multi-volume scholarly survey of Anglo-Saxon and Celtic art and architecture by Edinburgh art historian G. Baldwin Brown, published by John Murray in London from 1903 for students of early English antiquities. Halftone plates of carved grave-slabs, runic and Latin inscriptions, and standing crosses sit alongside close photographs of manuscript interlace, giving designers knotwork panels, key patterns, zoomorphic borders and incised cross forms in high-contrast black and white.
