The arts in the Middle Ages, and at the period of the Renaissance
A survey of medieval and Renaissance art by the French antiquary Paul Lacroix, writing as P. L. Jacob, translated by James Dafforne and published in London by Chapman and Hall in 1870 for general readers and collectors. The plates are wood-engraved copies of manuscript miniatures, carved reliefs, tomb sculpture and early block-book woodcuts, many keyed to holding libraries; useful for figure groups in medieval dress, Gothic architectural frames, banderole lettering and dense crosshatched tonal shading.
