The Astronomical journal
The Astronomical Journal, founded 1849 at the Dudley Observatory in Albany and later issued in New York, carried research papers by professional astronomers on orbits, eclipses and observational measurement. Plates combine fine-line geometric diagrams of triangles, angles and dotted construction arcs with photographic eclipse studies — a black solar disc ringed by corona, and sequences of thin white annular rings on dense black grounds.
