The Astronomical journal
A scholarly astronomy periodical begun in 1849 under Dudley Observatory and later issued for the American Astronomical Society, written by working astronomers for other researchers. The plates are spare line diagrams: orbital arcs with lettered points, star-field charts with numbered dots and arcminute scales, spiral trajectories with directional arrows, and angle-measuring fans with inch rules, useful as technical linework, coordinate grids, and annotation styles.
