The Astronomical journal
A research periodical of astronomy, begun in 1849 and published in New York for professional astronomers, later issued by the American Astronomical Society and American Institute of Physics. The plates are line diagrams: concentric circles with ruled margin scales, scattered dots marking measured positions, and small crosshairs and tick labels, useful as ready-made targets, scatter fields, and scientific chart furniture.
