Astronomie
Joseph Jérôme Le Français de Lalande's Astronomie, a French treatise on astronomy, tides and constellations published in Paris by the widow Desaint in 1771 for astronomers and instrument makers; the Boston Public Library copy came from John Adams's library. The engraved plates lay out quadrants, telescopes, micrometers and mural arcs as letter-keyed line diagrams, with screws, tripods and scales drawn separately alongside, offering precise instrument profiles, ruled arcs and graduated dials.
