Astronomy for all
A popular astronomy primer by the German self-taught astronomer Bruno Hans Bürgel, issued in English translation by Cassell in London and New York in 1911 for general readers without mathematics. The plates are numbered halftones of observatory photographs and the author's own drawings — the cratered Moon at first quarter, fissures near Triesnecker, nebulae around Nova Persei, star fields with the Earth below — giving designers grainy black grounds, scattered white points and pitted lunar texture.
