Astronomy, new and old
A popular astronomy text by the St. Louis priest Martin Stanislaus Brennan, published in New York by the Catholic Publication Society in 1889 for general and school readers. The plates are engraved telescopic views — sunspot groups on a rayed solar disc, a crescent moon in dense black, a total eclipse corona — offering fine hatched line, stark silhouette, and starless dark grounds.
