Astronomy and general physics considered with reference to natural theology
William Whewell's Bridgewater Treatise on astronomy and physics as evidence of divine design, issued in London by William Pickering in 1847 for educated general readers of natural theology. The scanned images are not scientific plates but printer's ornament and ownership marks: Pickering's Aldine anchor-and-dolphin device, once plain and once inside a grotesque cartouche of masks, scrolls, and swags, plus an engraved bookplate with a ribbon motto — useful for colophons, frames, and lettering on banners.
