The Astronomical journal
A professional astronomy research periodical begun in 1849 in the United States and later issued for the American Astronomical Society and American Institute of Physics, written for working astronomers reporting orbits, positions and measurements. Its figures are fine-line geometric diagrams: labelled ellipses with axes and focal radii, triangles linking sun, earth and comet, dashed construction lines and Greek-letter angle marks that work as spare technical line art.
