Attraverso gli albi e le cartelle : sensazioni d'arte
A survey of European printmakers and book illustrators by the Italian critic Vittorio Pica, issued in 1904 by the Istituto italiano d'arti grafiche in Bergamo for collectors of albums and portfolios of prints. Its plates reproduce etchings, drypoints and lithographs in dense hatched blacks: muffled figures on wet streets, sleeping nudes, theatre and cafe crowds, with tonal washes and heavy shadow useful for grainy textures and silhouette-driven night scenes.
