Axial aberrations of lenses

1918 · National Bureau of Standards · 16 pictures

A 1918 technical report from the National Bureau of Standards on axial aberrations of lenses, written for optical engineers, instrument makers and physicists measuring focal length and spherical aberration. The plates are line diagrams and small gridded graphs: a ray-trace construction with labelled focal points and dashed guide lines, and rows of panels plotting curved and dashed traces against distance from lens centre, each headed with a wavelength in millimicrons; useful as spare scientific line art, axis-and-grid layouts, and annotated geometric figures.
